DDA Housing Scheme 2014: Long queues as website crashes

New Delhi: As the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) launched its 'Housing Scheme 2014' on Monday which offer over 25,000 houses in the national capital, large number of people were seen queuing outside the DDA headquarters at Vikas Sadan for forms.

Amid a huge response from the public, the DDA website crashed which reportedly forced people to queue up outside the office.

Under the scheme, 25,034 flats are being offered to the citizens of India who do not own a home in Delhi, the booking for which starts September 1 and will close on October 9.

"The DDA Housing Scheme 2014 is now officially open. We are offering 25,034 flats in the scheme, out of which 22,627 are one-bed room apartments. Among others, are 896 flats constructed after 2010, with green technology," Balvinder Kumar, Vice-Chairman, DDA, said.

The new scheme offers flats ranging from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 1.2 crore across categories, viz - EWS, LIG, MIG, HIG, Janta flats and one-room apartments.

Besidesthe DDA office, forms are also said to be available at 13 empanelled banks viz. Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, Central Bank of India, Corporation Bank, Syndicate Bank, Union Bank of India, Indusland Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IDBI Bank, ICICI Bank Ltd, Yes Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank where long queues were also reportedly seen.

Forms have to be submitted in these banks too.

During its housing scheme in 2010, the DDA had received 11 lakh applications for 15,000 flats. This time it expects about 20 lakh applications for the current scheme.
